The United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space
It is the year 2100, where multiple events and inventions have let to the congregation of the world’s space agencies to address our ever-evolving world. To facilitate productive debate, you will all be granted full diplomatic rights from your respective countries to negotiate resolutions that are beneficial for your space program. This committee is structured as a hybrid between a GA and a crisis committee, where we will have no crisis notes nor resolution papers. Instead, the delegates will construct a revised International Space Treaty, which will replace the current outdated space accords and instantly be enacted into international law. The clauses in the treaty will be like operative clauses in a traditional GA setting, but they will be submitted and voted upon through the use of directives. The main topics that we will be discussing throughout the weekend are colonization (specifically of other celestial bodies), land/resource ownership in space, and intergalactic warfare, so most of the content in the final draft will pertain to these ideas. Any other relevant topics are more than welcome to be discussed, but we will have to be time efficient during committee session in order to achieve our goals. If you have any questions or concerns about the committee itself or about your specific assignment, please feel free to contact us and we will respond as soon as possible! This is a double delegate committee.
