UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women

Topic A: Economic Empowerment of Women
Topic B: Women's Security

Chair: Jocelyn Gonzalez

Director: Megan Romero

Dear Delegates,

Welcome to the UN Women committee. My name is Joselyn Gonzalez and I am excited to be your chair for this MICSUN. This will be my second year being staffing MICSUN, but it will be my first time chairing a committee at this conference.

I am currently a sophomore here at the University of Miami majoring in Finance and Economics. I have been involved in Model UN since my sophomore year of high school. It has been an important part of my life ever since. This is truly an activity that gives you real world skills from creative problem solving to negotiation. Conferences are a great opportunity to meet other students from around the country and in MICSUN’s case the world, take advantage of this.

Both issues that will be discussed in this committee are critical and timely issues. In our increasingly globalized world we have yet to find solutions for issues being faced by half the world’s population. This committee will be discussing two topics the first being the economic empowerment of women and the second being Women’s security. These issues do not have simple solutions and will require working with fellow delegates to create nuanced, detailed, and practical solutions.

These topics are complex and should lead to a dynamic committee filled with debate and negotiation. I will see you all in April! If you have any questions feel free to contact me at joselyng1997@gmail.com.
