The Human Rights Council of the United Nations is tasked with addressing either topic A, oil, mining, and natural resource industries or topic B, of sexual violence and rape. In terms of the former, the oil, mining, and gas industries are central to the economies of many developing countries. However, these industries often give rise to human rights issues such as abuse by a foreign powers and environmental concerns. Delegates should work to mediate human rights with economic well-being in a changing global stage. Regarding the latter, sexual violence and rape are issues that continue to plague the global stage. Delegates should work to uphold human basic rights in the midst of these issues, all the while working together to create cohesive solutions that balance what we should do and what we can do.
